HIGH ALTITUDE PRESENTER ED LEIGH
I'm very proud to welcome you all with great fanfare to the first week of High Altitude.

It's the new sister show of Ski Sunday and the outlet for everything you saw last season that isn't racing based.

The general idea is that each week Graham Bell or I push ourselves to the limit in one film and then we have a guest who will be guided by me and Graham towards the threshold of their comfort zone and in this show it's model Jodie Kidd's turn.

Thanks to perfect conditions and a timely window in a storm we were able to show her not only the terrifying reality of avalanches but also the reward of perfect helicopter-accessed powder snow.

Watching her move from ignorant bliss through terrified awareness and finally take the first steps towards educated awareness of the mountains' power will hopefully be a great refresher for experienced mountain folk, and an inspiration for anyone thinking about heading off piste to get on a course and pick up the right gear.

Now back to this weekend's race action on Ski Sunday.

There will be live racing from Kitzbuehel on Saturday and Sunday on the BBC Red Button.

I know almost nothing about the ski racing circuit so am not going to try and blag my way through it.

Luckily with Kitzbuehel there is no need.

It's the most exciting and dangerous course on the tour and it will favour skiers who let it all hang out, so fingers-crossed for a window in the huge dumps of snow forecast for Europe.

Elsewhere we have a treat for snowboard fans in the shape of the Burton European Open Halfpipe finals on Ski Sunday extra.

Get your Red Button warmed up for the end of the show and you'll get half an hour of an epic showdown between, in the words of that bald guy from Top Gun, 'The best of the best'.

Former snowboarder Ed Leigh presents the new series of High Altitude with Graham Bell on Sunday at 2200-2230 on BBC Two and the BBC Sport website.
