BOBBY GEORGE ON THE BDO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP This year's event is about to get under way and the stand-out player from 2008, Scotland's Gary Anderson, is again the number one seed and favourite. I always tip him to win but every time he lets me down and he has got it all to do this year with a tough opener against Robert 'The Magician' Wagner, who beat him at the Winmau World Masters in December. Anderson aside, it's a really open field this year. The World Masters champion Martin Adams is Mr Safe - he can always be relied upon - and I fancy Darryl Fitton to do well. He is seeded fifth and that's a good position to be in. It will be interesting to see how last year's champion Mark Webster does as he went on to have an unspectacular year, apart from winning the Europe Cup Singles. My dark horse is Poland's Krzysztof Ratajski. He won the Denmark Open and could ruffle a few feathers. Mind you I'm hoping he doesn't go too far as I'm trying to get my head round pronouncing his name. He is one of 12 debutants in what has got to be one of the youngest-ever fields for the World Championship. It includes 19-year-old Ross Smith, who has been round my house practising with my son Richard. In the women's event, seven-time champion Trina Gulliver will be looking to get her hands back on the title she relinquished to Anastasia Dobromyslova last year. Dobromyslova has, of course, switched to the PDC so it should be Gulliver's to lose. I've recently had an operation on my arm and I've had a lady round to design me a sequinned sling to wear at the Lakeside so watch out for that on TV!
