JONATHAN DAVIES ON THE WEEKEND'S RUGBY
Wales face the might of New Zealand on Saturday with the same starting XV that narrowly lost to South Africa a fortnight ago.

This hasn't come as much of a surprise as no-one else in the squad really put their hands up for a place following the unimpressive win over Canada last week.

Wales have it all to do against the formidable All Blacks. First and foremost they must get the basics right - and their kicking game needs to be spot on.

New Zealand's back three are superb. They are so dangerous on kick returns that the Welsh must boot the ball into space or they will come under intense pressure.

England face South Africa in a repeat of last year's World Cup final. New manager Martin Johnson is still trying to stamp his authority on his team, which is always difficult to do early on in a new regime.

Against Australia last week their discipline was poor and they were guilty of not taking chances.

Both England and Wales have been guilty of wasting opportunities and that's the difference between the Southern and Northern Hemisphere sides - once they create chances they take them, whereas the Northern Hemisphere teams don't.

But England have a chance this weekend against a South African side that haven't been playing well and seem very flat and short on confidence.

Ireland face familiar foes Argentina and know the Pumas will bring a spoiling, slowing game to Croke Park so they have got to get some kind of attacking structure going.

Scotland, meanwhile, play minnows Canada, which presents an ideal opportunity to build some confidence and get some tries on the board.

Don't forget it's also the rugby league World Cup final. Australia have such a good side it will take something very special from arch-rivals New Zealand to beat them.

Jonathan Davies is an analyst on Wales v New Zealand on BBC Two on Saturday.
