JOHN INVERDALE ON THE WEEKEND'S RUGBY UNION
Rugby union's autumn internationals kick-off this weekend with Six Nations champions Wales facing World Cup winners South Africa.

Wales will be looking to win three out of four of their games this month. They will beat Canada, but I think they need to win two of their three games against the southern hemisphere sides to continue their momentum from the Six Nations.

This isn't going to be easy and despite South Africa being a bit rusty, the world champions' resilience is such that I can see them sneaking it by three or four points.

England face the Pacific Islanders and Martin Johnson has gone with a bold team, containing just three players who played in the World Cup final barely a year ago.

It looks very exciting and feels like a new world. Johnson's team selection hints that the results this month are important but not absolutely crucial as he looks to the future.

Keep your eye out for Danny Care and Danny Cipriani, who are potentially the most exciting half-back pairing England have had for years in terms of having the ability to ignite a back division.

New Zealand have picked what is effectively a second string XV to face Scotland, but there is the old cliché that the second-best team in world rugby is the All Blacks' second team.

It's a chance for those players on the fringes of the New Zealand squad to make a claim for a place in the first team.

This almost makes it even harder for the Scots as the New Zealand players have such an incentive, but if Chris Paterson can kick a few penalties in the first 20 minutes then who knows?

Finally, Ireland take on a Canadian team who tend to struggle as their players are scattered around the world. My instinct is that Declan Kidney's team should win by 40 points.
