PETER ALLISS AT THE RYDER CUP
Many observers have dismissed the United States' chances of winning the Ryder Cup and that is ridiculous.

Europe are the legitimate favourites, but only just and I think it could be very close.

I certainly don't think we will see either team win by six or seven points, it will come down to a margin of about two or three with Europe's rookies having a huge say in the outcome.

They have to help out the established players as some times it just doesn't happen for the experienced names at the Ryder Cup.

Look at Padraig Harrington at the K Club in 2006 - he only won half a point out of five and even the mighty Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods struggled at times.

So the likes of Oliver Wilson, Graeme McDowell, Justin Rose and Soren Hansen will need to pick up a half point here or a point there to make the difference.

Europe's captain, Nick Faldo, has come under fire over the past few days following the furore over TV cameras revealing his pairings written on a piece of paper.

He rattled on in his press conferences and generally confused everyone, but Faldo is Faldo.

If the team do well he will be labelled a hero and it will all be forgotten.

The course here in Kentucky is in excellent condition and it's very big, which could be tough for the players.

The Ryder Cup is a tiring event both mentally and physically so we could be in for some long days.

The atmosphere during the practice days has been tremendous and there have been huge numbers of people turning up which is wonderful.

They have been very warm to the European team, but when the heat of the battle begins that could all change.

Enjoy the weekend,

Peter
