RISHI PERSAD AT THE PARALYMPICS
After the first four days of the Beijing Paralympics the message was clear - don't let Rishi Persad anywhere near Great Britain's medal hopefuls!

On the first day at these Games I visited the Olympic Green Hockey Field to watch the blind five-a-side team lose 3-0 to China.

The following day I went to the same venue and saw our cerebral palsy seven-a-side boys blitzed 8-1 by the reigning Olympic champions, Ukraine.

Day three brought the thrills and spills of judo and high hopes for Athens silver medallist Ian Rose - he didn't even make the repechage.

Meanwhile, BBC cycling commentator Nick Mullins had the joy of calling home 12 British gold medals and Lizzie Greenwood-Hughes interviewed four equestrian gold medallists.

It was at this point that I was dubbed the BBC's Beijinx correspondent.

So, like a jealous gambler chasing his losses, I headed off to the Shunyi Olympic Rowing Park where Tom Aggar, Helene Raynsford and the rest of our rowers at their first Paralympics, carried not only the hopes of the British public, but also the added burden of having me in their corner.

Then, just like the proverbial London bus, two gold medals were delivered in double quick time.

As I was interviewing Helene about becoming the first person to win a Paralympic rowing gold medal, Tom was flying home to take his place in the history books as the first man to do the same.

I was finally off the cold list and now the mantle of Beijinx correspondent has fallen on athletics reporter Phil Jones.

Phil is one of the most affable men you could wish to meet but that has not prevented everyone blaming him for David Weir's failure to win a gold medal.

Therefore, in desperation for a sniff of success, he has been dispatched to the archery field on Saturday where we are guaranteed at least a silver medal.
