FRIDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER 22.30 BST - BBC TWO
FROM GAVIN ESLER

Hello

A week that changed the financial world
"Make an impact. Engage your passion. Realise your potential". That's the now defunct blurb from the careers section of the Lehman Brothers website.

Tonight we'll be reflecting on a week which saw banking giants on either side of the Atlantic quake. The financial landscape changed forever with the collapse of Lehman Brothers and the rescue of HBoS by Lloyds TSB.

We'll bring you the latest news from the markets which have (at the time of writing) responded to this incredible week with a spectacular surge. We're also keeping an eye on America, where the government is planning to buy billions of dollars of bad mortgage related loans.

"Spivs and speculators" was how Alex Salmond described some of those responsible for this week's events. Steve Smith is in the Square Mile to gauge the mood of the masters of the universe after this week's events.

If not Gordon-then Who?
And we've the second of our focus group films by American pollster Frank Luntz. Tonight he's asking if not Gordon - then who?

PRESENTED BY KWAME KWEI- ARMAH
Kwame will be joined by the academic Sarah Churchwell, the dancer and choreographer Wayne McGregor and the writer John O'Farrell tonight.

The Wave
This new film from Germany explores how easy it would be for Nazism to flourish again. "We're bored of hearing about Hitler", is what a group of students say when their teacher starts to teach a lesson on autocracy. He hits upon the idea of starting a movement - The Wave - to explore how autocratic systems really work.

The movement quickly spirals out of control, with pupils daubing wave symbols all over town and bullying non-members. The teacher calls a special assembly to call off the experiment - but is it too late? The film is based on a real classroom experiment which took place in California in the 1970s - will our panel think this interpretation is realistic?

In-I
Juliet Binoche has already branched out from acting into poetry and painting. Now, at the age of 44, she's turned to dance. In-I is the result of a collaboration between Binoche and the dancer and choreographer Akram Khan, who has already paired up with a diverse range of artists - Kylie Minogue, Hanif Kureshi and others.

In-I, which opens at the National Theatre tonight, tells the story of a love affair through dance, dialogue, and song. What will our panellist, the choreographer Wayne McGregor, make of it?

Philip Roth
We'll also be reviewing Philip Roth's latest novel Indignation, which he admits could just as well serve as the title of many of his other works! It tells the story of Marcus Messner the son of a Jewish butcher from New Jersey, who defies his parents' wishes and enrols at a college in the Mid-West, but is stifled and alienated by the institution, and unable to escape the judgement of his elders.

Ivanov
And, Kenneth Branagh's got five star reviews for his performance in the little-known Chekov play Ivanov at the Wyndhams.

Branagh plays a Russian landowner who, tormented by business debts and emotional turmoil, has fallen out of love with his now ill wife, Anna (played by Gina McKee), and is tempted by the young Sasha (Andrea Riseborough), a rich heiress.

Will our panel be equally impressed?
Are we witnessing a new golden age of theatre? Join the debate here.
