TONIGHT ON PANORAMA - THE TRUTH ABOUT HAPPY HOUR - 8.30PM ON BBC ONE

Hi,

PANORAMA UNDERCOVER REPORTER ARRESTED

Last week a BBC reporter who went undercover for Panorama to expose failings in care of the elderly in South Lanarkshire was arrested. Arifa Farooq's work helped inform Britain's Homecare Scandal: A Panorama Special which was broadcast in April.

It is believed she was detained by police for failing to provide accurate information to an employer.

The BBC and the National Union of Journalists have voiced their support for Arifa and raised concerns for the future of investigative journalism in the wake of the arrest.

You can read more about Arifa's arrest on BBC News Online.

If you missed Britain's Homecare Scandal you can watch it on the Panorama website.

THE TRUTH ABOUT HAPPY HOUR

Summer is here and with it headlines about boozy British tourists holidaying abroad. But binge drinking is also a problem at home and in one city they've taken a radical new approach to tackling it.

In The Truth About Happy Hour, Richard Bilton travels to Oldham which is running a campaign to reclaim the city centre from the drunk and violent.

He visits a bar that is making it too hard to get drunk and looks at the battle against cheap drinks promotions.

There are lots of extra features and video clips about the programme on the Panorama website.

Panorama: The Truth About Happy Hour is on BBC One, Monday 10 August at 8.30pm.

SMUGGLERS' TALES

Last week's exclusive access behind prison doors at HMP Woodhill threw light on the ongoing battle between the prison service and inmates over the availability of illegal drugs including cannabis and heroin.

Reporter Raphael Rowe spoke to prisoners and their guards about how drugs get through the checks and searches. He was shown CCTV footage from the Prison Service showing people being caught red-handed as they tried to smuggle illicit substances on prison visits and spoke to one girl who was caught doing just that.

If you missed the programme you can watch it on the Panorama website.

There you can also read Raphael's blog and have your say on the discussion there.

Alternatively watch our video extra where Raphael quizzes inmates at HMP Woodhill about how easy it is to get drugs inside.

PANORAMA CALLOUT

Panorama is currently conducting research for a programme on the criminal justice system.

We want to know whether you have had recent experience of the system - and whether you believe it is working successfully.

We also want to hear from you if you have knowledge of cases in which offenders have escaped justice or have been allowed to re-offend because in your view the system has not worked properly.

Please email panorama@bbc.co.uk putting 'Justice' in the subject heading.

That's all from us for this week but you can keep up to date with Panorama on our website.

And remember you can e-mail us anytime at panorama@bbc.co.uk
