DAVE WOODS ON THE CHALLENGE CUP
I cannot remember such an exciting build-up to the quarter-final stage of the Challenge Cup.

Everyone is looking forward to this weekend's matches as much as they normally do for the semis.

This just shows the tournament is right back on the map and how important it is to the rugby league family.

BBC Sport's first game pitches this season's surprise package Hull KR against Warrington.

Before the season one or two people predicted good things for Hull KR - although they were pilloried in certain quarters - and they've grown under coach Justin Morgan and evolved into what he wants them to be.

They do the basics really well and their mix of solid professionals and clever players goes together so well that it shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone that they are doing as well as they are.

Warrington have been the great under-achievers of recent years but Tony Smith's influence is starting to have a real effect.

They are a lot more solid and far less erratic than they used to be and it might just all come together in this year's Challenge Cup final.

Sunday's match sees Huddersfield host Castleford. To both teams, a trip to Wembley would make their season. Winning this competition could explode them into the big time.

It's a reflection of the strength of the Super League that both these sides would have been seen as also-rans only two or three years ago, but now they are potential cup winners.

Castleford coach Terry Matterson knows how much this tournament means, not just to the club, but to the entire town, which becomes so manic and excitable when the Challenge Cup comes round.

It's a wonderfully well-balanced and well-matched tie and I cannot predict without any certainty or confidence who is going to win.

Dave Woods commentates on Hull KR v Warrington on BBC Two on Saturday.
