JAKE HUMPHREY ON THE MONACO GRAND PRIX So, round six of the F1 World Championship and it's Monaco, the most glamorous stop on the calendar and the race I've been counting down to since the season began. The first thing that hits you if you haven't been here before is the sheer claustrophobia of the place. Someone just mentioned Monte Carlo is the size of Hyde Park and they're probably not wrong, but what a great place to have a race - there really is nothing like it! It's only when you see just how tight, twisty and demanding this track is that you really develop the ultimate respect for the guys who thrash their cars around here at speeds approaching 180mph in places without hardly batting an eyelid. If you don't leave a bit of your car's paint on the balcony you've not pushed as hard as you should in many people's minds. So, to this race. Can Jenson Button do the business and extend his lead at the top of the driver standings? For the first time in his career he takes to the track here in Monaco as favourite and many people believe the grip and precision the Brawn car offers him will see him take the 10 points. That will be special as in all his previous races here he's only finished in the points once. Keep your eyes on Ferrari who will be keen to show just how much they've improved their car. And Red Bull Racing, who bagged their first ever podium at this track in 2006, courtesy of David Coulthard, will look to continue to impress. I really hope you enjoy the weekend's coverage. I'll be bobbing in the harbour with Eddie and David while the cars are on track...quite simply because this place is so small the water is about the only place we can be! Enjoy the weekend, Jake Jake Humphrey presents coverage of the Monaco Grand Prix on BBC TV. |
