SUE BARKER ON THE LONDON MARATHON
There is talk every year that this is the strongest London Marathon field ever, but I actually think it is true this time in all four events.

The men's race sees Kenyan Martin Lel go for an unprecedented fourth win. We all marvelled at last year's race in which he won in such an amazing time and he will again be the one to beat.

Everyone has Lel's compatriot Sammy Wanjiru down as his toughest challenger and he will be looking to go one better than his second place last year.

Wanjiru followed his runner-up finish with an Olympic marathon victory in Beijing which had many of our experts in the commentary box describing it as one of the greatest marathon performances of all time.

The race organisers have high hopes for a world record as conditions could be absolutely ideal.

I keep talking about the warm weather being a factor, but the elite runners really don't care less about it being too warm.

In the women's event there is no Paula Radcliffe of course, but the field still resembles a who's who of marathon running.

Irina Mikitenko was a terrific winner of last year's race, but Constantina Tomescu Dita's gold medal in Beijing will give her a huge amount of confidence.

The celebrities running always catch my eye and none more so than Katie Price and Peter Andre. I'm not sure what it would be like running with your husband, I'm not sure I could do it!

They really have taken it seriously though and the commitment they've shown is admirable. Katie is running to raise money for charity in honour of her blind son Harvey so it will be a very moving day for her.

The London Marathon is so uplifting and it's my favourite working day. I walk away feeling so humbled by the experience and seeing people giving their time and energy to help change others' lives.

There's no other event quite like it.

Enjoy the weekend,

Sue
