PETER ALLISS ON THE MASTERS GOLF
The 2009 Masters is upon us here at Augusta and there are so many plots and sub-plots that it looks set to be a terrific tournament.

No prizes for guessing who has been dominating the build-up to the event. Tiger Woods plays in his first major since June 2008 following reconstructive surgery on his knee and is the favourite to win.

He is an amazing fella; I've watched him since he was 15 years old and he has done things with a golf club that aren't possible.

I've seen him play shots that I've looked at and blinked and thought 'it can't happen' - but he has done it time and time again.

He gives his opponents chances to win, yet on very few occasions do they actually take them.

The question is, can somebody like Phil Mickelson come through? Can that somebody hold their nerve? Can they play the right shot? Will they get a good bounce and a bit of luck at the right time? Who knows, and that is the beauty of the game.

The weather, of course, will play a big part. The forecast is quite nice, but if the wind gets up it could make things a bit frisky.

Great Britain and Europe have some strong contenders, including England's Paul Casey who won last week in Houston.

The odds of him winning here this week are quite long as only a few times in history has anyone gone on to win the Masters after triumphing the week before.

My tip though comes purely for monetary reasons. I have a bookmaker friend who gave me very generous odds of 66-1 on Sweden's Henrik Stenson. Fingers crossed!

Enjoy the Easter weekend,

Peter
