GARY LINEKER AT THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP Conditions on day two of the 138th Open Championship here at Turnberry are markedly different than what the players enjoyed yesterday. The wind is always such an important factor of any Open. Links courses are always open to the elements, so you never quite know what you are going to get from one day to the next. It is blustery today, nothing too severe, but with the kind of rough you get out there it is enough to make things problematic for any golfer. Looking at the top of the leaderboard yesterday it was no surprise to see a couple of old heads, like Tom Watson and Mark Calcavecchia, right up there leading the way. The old boys aren't too bad when the weather's calm, but just you wait till it gets chilly and the old joints ache a little bit. Tiger Woods was clearly struggling with his game in round one and every time he got the driver out it was a bit wayward. He is one of golf's great grinders and even though he has got a lot to do in these conditions, with his fighting spirit, I'm sure he will be in touch come Sunday afternoon. England's Ross Fisher is proving to be quite a player. He came very close at the US Open and is on a good run of form. It will be interesting on Saturday night if he gets a call from his heavily pregnant wife saying she has gone into labour. It will be an extremely tricky decision to have to make if he is leading the Open. Hopefully she can hold on for a few more days. I played this stunning course once and if they think these conditions are tough they should have seen it that day. It was like playing in a hurricane, we were the only people on the course and even the caddy said, 'I've not been out in conditions like this for 50 years'.
