MURRAY WALKER ON THE BRITISH GRAND PRIX The British Grand Prix is going to be a very sad and emotional experience for me because it looks like this is going to be the last one held at Silverstone. The place means so much to me, I did my very first broadcast from there and I've seen every race since 1949. There have been some fabulous drivers to win at Silverstone like Alberto Ascari, Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark, Graham Hill...I could rattle off the names forever. This year, in light of what has happened so far this season, it looks like Brawn are going to be in pretty good shape to make it seven out of eight wins. Jenson Button would love to make it another one in his home Grand Prix. His team-mate Rubens Barrichello will probably regard this as his last chance to keep his world championship hopes alive. If he doesn't do well at Silverstone I think there is every likelihood that Ross Brawn will ask him to act as a rear gunner for Jenson so that they can be sure that he will win the championship. You can never ever overlook Ferrari. Although they started off very poorly, of the major teams and by which I mean McLaren, BMW, Renault and Williams, they have made the best progress. What they were lacking so far was downforce, but they've now got a double diffuser and they are making improvements all the time. McLaren, on the other hand, are really down in the dumps. They have got a bad car and they have got to make a descion very soon about whether they start developing the new car from scratch for 2010 or try and make the 2009 car go faster. It's a bitter blow for Lewis Hamilton. He was a magnificent winner here last year, but he has got about as much chance of winning this time round as I have. But anything could happen in Formula One and it usually does. Enjoy your weekend, Murray Murray Walker commentated on Formula One for 50 years on the BBC. |
